Its so far only known locality is the Dominican Republic.
Officially discovered quite recently in 1974, some say, it has been known ever since to the indigenous tribes on the island of Hispaniola - of which the Dominican Republic along with Haiti is part of. But that's just hearsay, as there is no verifiable proof to it.
